Half marathon training started this past Saturday, July 12. There were lots of familiar faces from last year, and lots of new faces too. I really enjoy the group I joined....USAFitBCS. They focus on having fun while training and being there for each other. I had a lot of fun last year and made some great friends in the process. I can't wait to see what's in store this year. Our goal race is the BCS Marathon & Half Marathon in December with extended training for another month for the few of us doing the Aramco Half Marathon in January in Houston. I just have to suffer through the humid summer here and then it's all worth it come race day! We had a nice short 2 mile run to start with on Saturday. Today starts my weekly training with runs on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Week 1, here I go:

Firecracker 5K Recap
Independence Day started with a local 5K....Firecracker 5K, in College Station, TX. The day started out cloudy and drizzling rain here and there.....still humid as heck though! This was a fun run without chip timing put on by BCS Race Series. Around 400 registrants showed up in their red, white & blue attire. This was almost the same course as last years impromptu July 4th fun run. The turn out last year warranted this run be part of the race series for 2014. Some of my running group "family" did the run also. This run was well worth it in the humidity and spotty rain for the watermelon and apple pie afterwards!! I went straight for the pie....YUM!!

Off I go...
Finished....31:09 - with some nice negative splits to boot!
