Texas 10 College Station

Sunday's inaugural race in College Station for the Texas 10 Series was a blustery one!  A cold front had just pushed through that morning bringing rain showers and gusty winds.  This was a 5 mile, 10 mile & kids 1 mile race.  The 10 mile was a loop of the 5 mile course which was through Texas A&M campus.  It was mid-30's at race time with northerly wind gusts up to 30mph and a misting rain that was intermittent.  The announcer stated that if anyone doing the 10 miler would like to call it quits at the completion of their 5 miles could..........hmmm, don't give me any ideas!  You would just qualify for the 5 mile time and not get the cool medal that was being presented for the completion of the 10.  A classmate and running group buddy also ran the 10 miler.  There was a decent turn out despite the weather.  The race started out promptly at 7:30AM.  The sprinkles seemed to hold off, at least for the first loop of 5 miles.  I handed my gloves off to my husband when I cheerfully ran by him after the first loop.  My hands get really warm for some reason.  Well into mile 6 or 7 it starts raining......great!  It lasts for about 10 minutes.  The wind was the most brutal part, especially when we were running straight into it.  About mile 8, I was regretting not having my gloves.  The temperature had dropped more and plus being wet now, my hands were starting to sting with the wind.  Not to mention they were bright red from the cold.  Boy was I glad to make that final turn and run to the finish line!
Despite the weather, this was a great race....very organized with lots of volunteers and water stops along the route.  The route was clearly marked too.  I'll definitely do this one again.  The first 5 mile loop seemed to drag by, but luckily the second loop went by pretty fast.  My finish time was 1:52:42
You can qualify for monetary prizes if you complete the whole series of this race circuit in the different TX cities.  They also award prizes for the top male/female finishers in the different age groups at each race.
Here I am nice and warm waiting in the vehicle before the start of the race.  Also, I am proud to be a Swirlgear brand ambassador, and I was sporting my new Swirlgear shirt.  If you would like to purchase Swirlgear products, please use code swirlon at checkout to receive free ground shipping.
